Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA Returns

Learn all about the exciting return of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, the "Gran Turismo Alleggerita”!

Talk about exciting! A new model inspired by a racing legend is coming your way, due to Alfa Romeo's 110 years in business! The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is technically and conceptually motivated by the Giulia GTA of 1965: the “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” (that was promoted by Autodelta) and based on the award-winning Giulia Sprint GT. The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA mirrors the powerful 2.9 V-6 Bi-Turbo engine, but it extracts 540-horsepower due to fine engineering and performance know-how. Zero- to 62-mph is possible in 3.6 seconds! Let's get into the coolness of this development right here at Fullerton Alfa Romeo!

What's the history of this vehicle?

Starting off in the Giulia Sprint GTA model that came out in 1965, the acronym GTA means “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” (alleggerita is the Italian word for “lightened”). The official Alfa Romeo racing team at the time was named 'Autodelta', and with it, they won hundreds of national and international championships. Cut to today, with the pending release of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, and to say Alfa Romeo fans are just thrilled would be a major understatement!

What are some characteristics of this new edition?

Well, the trim inside is done in 100-percent Alcantara on the door panels, dashboard, glove box, middle trim of the seats, and side pillars! On the GTAm variant, there's a completely upholstered “basin” instead of rear seats, as well as a roll bar. The new matte carbon inserts provide the interior with a characteristic technical & tasteful elegance. In the new GTAm, the door is opened with a belt instead of the handle, another highlight that arises from the arena of racing. On the exterior, look at the cool 20" center-lock wheels, which are new to sedans, as well as a more extended front splitter and a genuine carbon rear wing. Also, borrowing liberally from Formula 1, aerodynamics were tweaked in several areas to increase the downforce. Perhaps more important is the reduction of weight by changing out components to lightweight alternatives. This vehicle lost 220-lbs by using carbon fiber for the front wheel arches, driveshaft, hood, roof, rear-wheel arch inserts and, front bumper. Similarly, the shell of the sport seats is made of carbon fiber instead on the GTAm.

What about Alfa Romeo's history?

Since its 1910 establishment in Milan, Italy, Alfa Romeo has designed and made some of the most fashionable and elite cars in the automotive archives. That custom is alive and well as Alfa Romeo continues to take an individual and clever approach to design automobiles. The Giulia Quadrifoglio, as well as the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, highlight the automaker’s most powerful production engine to date with best-in-class 0-60 miles-per-hour times of 3.8 and 3.6 seconds, respectively. That's quite a legacy and one that is only getting stronger!
